Princeton Optimist Club – Pumpkin Races @ Downtown Princeton (Corner of W. Marion and S. Main Streets)

The Princeton Optimist Club presents the Third Annual Pumpkin Races!!
Saturday, October 25th at 12PM in Downtown Princeton
Open to all ages ~ make it a family project

Rules:No motors, Axle must go through the pumpkin (Must use a real pumpkin)

Entry fee: 3 canned goods for each pumpkin entry ~ donated to the Food Pantry

IVCC fall production – “Dames at Sea” @ St. Bede’s Little Theatre, Peru IL

Illinois Valley Community College’s theatre department’s fall production, “Dames at Sea” opens Thursday, Oct. 16 and runs through Oct. 19 and again Oct. 23-26 at St. Bede’s Little Theatre. Show times are 8 p.m. for all shows and tickets are available at the door one hour prior to the performance. Prices are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors 65 and over and children 12 and under.

Directed and choreographed by Don Grant Zellmer, “Dames at Sea” is billed as the red, white and blue tap dancing musical comedy spoof of 1930’s movie musicals.

The cast includes IVCC students Clarissa Gerrard, Hillari Berens, Travis Jasper, faculty members Zellmer and Norman Engstrom, and community members Alex Gurrero and Karen Lesman.

Chorus members include IVCC students Chelsea Berg, Amalia Heuser, and Emery Stewart and community member Adrienne Van Horn. The stage crew includes music director Engstrom, technical director Jenna Stinson, and assistant technical director Matt Boehm.

IVCC – Nursing information Session @ Illinois Valley Community College

A nursing admission information session will be held from 10 to 11:30 am, Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Room C-316.

Sponsored by the counseling center and admissions and records, the session will cover admission requirements and courses students should take before applying to either the associate degree (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs.

Covered Bridge Quilters Guild – workshop @ Evangelical Covenant Church

The Covered Bridge Quilters Guild will conduct a workshop from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm on  Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Evangelical Covenant Church. 
Project:  “School House of Make and Take Holiday Gifts” taught by Kim Hogan. $20.00 for members and $25:00 for nonmembers.
 
IVCC – “Native Skills” class @ IVCC Gymnasium
Nov 1 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center is offering “Native Skills” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. This will be an outdoors class that will meet in room G-103 in IVCC’s gymnasium.

Instructor Jason Thompson will teach students survival skills including observation and awareness techniques to become a part of nature without using camouflage.  Students will also learn to interpret tracks and follow trails that aren’t detected by others.

Students must be 18 years or older and should dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and bring note-taking materials, a sack lunch, snacks, and water.

Annual Smorgasbord & Bake Sale – St. Patrick Church, Arlington @ Bishop Franz Hall

The annual smorgasbord & bake sale sponsored by St. Patrick Church Altar & Rosary Society, Arlington, is Sunday, Nov. 2.

Serving is 11am to 1pm in Bishop Franz Hall. Adults $8.00; children under 12 $3.00; and children under 5 free.  The menu is turkey/dressing or ham, mashed potatoes/gravy, vegetables, salads, dessert, and beverage.

Dinner tickets and raffle tickets purchased at the door. Carry-outs are available. A raffle drawing for a home-made quilt will be at 1pm.

Toy Sale – Bureau County Fairgrounds @ Bureau County Fairgrounds
