Illinois Valley Community College chemistry instructor Matthew Johll will once again trust science over common sense as he has a cement block smashed off his chest while lying on a bed of nails at the annual Sci-Fest from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 21 in the gym.
Sponsored by the STEM/Chem club, officer Arinze Ochuba said, “This event introduces kids early on to science, technology, engineering and mathematics for exploration, understanding and fun.”
Guests can check out 40 stations with demos from chemistry, biology, physics and geology. Back by popular demand are imploding barrels, liquid nitrogen ice cream and Ruben’s Tube.
“We had about 600 guests last year,” Ochuba said. “My favorite parts were greeting the first guests to arrive and of course when we smashed the cinder block on Dr. Johll’s chest as he laid on a bed of nails!”
The event is free and open to the public. Contact Johll at (815) 224-0468 for information.Filed under | Comments Off on IVCC – “Sci-Fest”
