Vice President Mike Pence is coming to central Illinois to campaign for Republican Congressman Rodney Davis. The University of Illinois-Chicago is planning a new scholarship program for the state’s top students.

(Springfield, IL) — You did not miss the deadline to register to vote in Illinois. Yesterday, October 9th, was the last day to register and vote later. The Illinois State Board of Elections says voters can still register, but in most cases they’ll have to vote at the same time. There’s also an online voter registration option available at the State Board’s website. Voters in Illinois can, essentially, register all the way up to and including Election Day.

(Washington, DC) — Add central Illinois to the list of campaign stops for Vice President Mike Pence. The Sangamon County Republican Party yesterday announced that the vice president will campaign for Congressman Rodney Davis Friday in Springfield. Pence will headline a lunch fundraiser. The latest poll shows Davis ahead by just one point in his race for reelection.

(Chicago, IL) — The University of Illinois-Chicago is the latest school in the state to try to get Illinois students to attend an Illinois university. The school yesterday announced the Chancellor’s Fellows Program, which will provide a full scholarship to top high school graduates in the state. The program is part of Illinois’ merit-based scholarship program that begins next fall.

(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is at the bottom of another list when it comes to state finances. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University released its new state financial rankings yesterday and Illinois is 50th. Researchers judged the states on cash solvency, long-run solvency, budget solvency, service-level solvency and trust fund solvency. Mercatus ranked Nebraska as the best state in the nation.

>>Quad Cities Hospital Warning Of Phishing Scam

(Rock Island, IL) — One of the Quad Cities’ largest hospitals is warning patients of a phishing scam. Genesis Health Systems yesterday said someone is sending emails that look like they are from Genesis and that ask for personal information. Spokesman Craig Cooper says the emails are an attempt to get ahold of your Social Security number. Cooper says if you get an email, simply delete it.
