A former central Illinois fire captain is heading to prison for 36 years for rape. Police in Springfield say they’ve found a missing 10-year-old girl.

(Davenport, IA) — It’s going to be another dangerously hot day across the state of Illinois today. The National Weather Service is leaving a Heat Advisory in place for the entire state until about 8:00 tonight. Forecasters say temperatures will be in the 90s, but the heat and humidity will make it feel closer to 105 degrees. The Weather Service says your best bet to beat the heat is to drink plenty of water and stay inside.

(Bloomington, IL) — Bloomington city leaders could put a year-and-a-half of debate to bed on Monday. The city’s council is set to vote on a “welcoming ordinance” Monday evening. Bloomington has been debating the ordinance that supporters say will make people in the country illegally feel safe. Opponents say the ordinance would handcuff local police.

>>Former Central Illinois Fire Captain Sentenced For Rape

(Urbana, IL) — A former central Illinois firefighter is heading to prison for almost four decades for raping a young firefighter. A judge on Tuesday sentenced former Savoy Fire Captain David “D.J.” Dunn to 36 years in prison for the attack on a probationary firefighter at a party last year. Police say Dunn drugged the young man, then had sex with him against his will.

>>Kewanee Police Arrest Man For Targeting Child For Sex

(Kewanee, IL) — Police in Kewanee say they stopped a 57-year-old man from meeting a child for sex. Officers arrested James Caldwell on Tuesday; they say he was hoping to meet the child, who he met online. Officers are not saying how they were tipped off to Caldwell’s alleged plans. He’s now in jail in Henry County on a slew of attempted sex charges.

(Springfield, IL) — A missing 10-year-old girl is back home safe in Springfield. Police say they found 10-year-old Ta’riah Kirkwood Tuesday evening. She’d been missing since Sunday. But police are not saying where the little girl went, or how they found her.
