Obituary – George Evans

George R. Evans, 86, of Princeton, Illinois passed away peacefully at the Illinois Veterans Home of La Salle on Monday, March 5, 2018.

            George was born on December 17, 1931 in Moundville, MO the son of Estelle D. and Lilly F. Evans.  He attended school in Burnough, MO until moving to Illinois in his high school years. He graduated on June 18, 1949. He joined the U.S. Navy in July of that year, serving for 20 years. He then worked for Civil Service as an Aircraft Repair Technician, retiring after 20 years to full retirement.

            George served in Vietnam for one year and also during the Korean War era. He had many tours at sea visiting many countries. He also served on the carrier that picked up Mercury Space Capsules.

He married Dorothy Virginia Jenkins on December 24, 1958 in San Diego, CA. She passed away on October 4, 2003. They were married 45 years. They liked to travel a lot. For three and a half years visiting friends all over the U.S.

            George is survived by one brother, Dean (Sally) Evans of Princeton, Illinois; four sisters: Faye (Phil) Harris of Bradford, Illinois,  Mary Ann Cruse of Dover, Tennessee, Dian Evans of Sarcoxie, Missouri, of Linda (Bill) Sack of Spring Valley, Illinois, a Special Friend, Lurley Nixon of Walcott, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers in infancy and one sister, Darlene Wilson.  

            A graveside service will be held 10 am Friday, March 9, 2018 at Osceola Grove Cemetery, Rural Bradford, Illinois with Rev. David Barnes officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Bradford American Legion and the Military Funeral Honors of Macomb.
