Joel David Sawitoski, age 86, of Princeton, died on Thursday.

He was born on February 9, 1931 in Geneva to Joseph and Gertrude (Loveless) Sawitoski. He married Barbara Maurer in 1957 in Spring Valley. He was a class of 1948 graduate of East High School in Aurora. He had served in the United States Air Force and had worked for Nicor for 35 years where he had been plant accountant supervisor.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, and the Woodworkers Unlimited where he had served as treasurer.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Sawitoski of Princeton; his children, Beth Liebenow of Aurora; Nancy Kruger of Texas; and Joseph Sawitoski of Montgomery, Illinois; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Louise Gilla of Florida, and Susan Sisco of Aurora.

He was preceded by his parents and 1 grandson.

Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton. Private interment will be held at a later date in the Peru City Cemetery.
