Obituary – Virginia “Ginger” Allen

Virginia Lee “Ginger” Allen of Iron River, Mich., formerly of Wyanet, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, in Iron River, Mich.

Virginia was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Mendota to John C. and Cloie L. (Evans) Kratz. She married John E. Allen at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, on Aug. 4, 1956. John preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2009.

Virginia attended Saint Mary’s Academy, a Catholic boarding school in Nauvoo, until she graduated her senior year in 1954. She went on to attend nursing school in Texas for six months until she married. She was a homemaker and was a CNA until she retired in 1991 from Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.

She lived her life for her husband, kids and grandkids. She was “mom” to her children’s friend as well. No one went away from her home hungry. She loved a lot of people and was loved by many.

Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Andy) Coble of Iron River, Mich.; her granddaughter, Brandie (Nick) Johnson of Iron River, Mich.; her grandsons, Jason (Shana) Allen of Princeton and Jeremy (Blythe) Allen of North Sioux City, S.D.; her great-grandchildren, Amya, Aiden and Rylee Johnson, Samantha, Brent and Scott Neahring, and Connor Maltas; her friend and sister from St. Mary’s Academy, Barbara Filson; a daughter-in-law, Connie Allen; and all of her children’s friends that thought of her as mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, James Lee Allen and John V. Allen.
