Gene Gustafson, 82, of Tiskilwa, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his family.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the Tiskilwa Community Church with Rev. John Gray officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Mt. Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa. His family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of The Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton. Private online condolences may be left at

Gene was born on November 5, 1934 in Princeton to Malcolm and Alma (Magnuson) Gustafson. He married Betty Jo Lauritzen on March 21, 1957 in the Tiskilwa Baptist Church. He had worked for the Co-op Feed Service in Princeton, the Village of Tiskilwa, and had been a custodian for the Tiskilwa School Systems until his retirement. He had served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Tiskilwa Community Church and he had served on the Tiskilwa Village board for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan all his life.

He is survived by: his wife, Betty Jo Gustafson of Tiskilwa; his children, Jill (Joseph) Kunkel of Wyanet, Jack (Laurie) Gustafson of Wyanet, Rick (Beth Ann) Gustafson of Houston, Texas, Buzz (Tammy) Gustafson of Wyanet and Lisa Gustafson of Ottawa; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; his sister, Doris (Wilbur) Giltner of Princeton; his 2 brothers, Robert Gustafson of LaSalle, and Gerald Gustafson of Carlyle, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by: 1 brother; 1 sister; a daughter, Nancy Jo (Gustafson) Funderberg; and a granddaughter in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to: the Tiskilwa Community Church or the Tiskilwa Ambulance Service.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
