Tony R. Martin, age 65 of Walnut, Illinois died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, Illinois.
Tony was born on December 24, 1948 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Preston and M. Ruth (Knight) Martin. He was united in marriage to Mindy McKenna on September 11, 1971 in Rockton, Illinois. He loved his family more than anything. He also loved anything with a motor and music. The first band Tony was in was The Vanguards. He went on to play in Rum and Chowder, LonWolf and the Old News Band. Tony cherished the two towns of Walnut and Mendota. He worked for Consolidated Freight for many years, also worked for Holland Freight, GBH Homes, Kurtz Glass and FS.  He is survived by his wife, Mindy of Walnut, IL; two daughters: Heather (Tony) Zaragoza  of Joliet, IL and Rachel (Pedro) Baltodano of New York, New York; one son, Aaron Martin of Glen Ellyn, IL; three grandchildren: Grace Martin, Nehemiah and Noah Ross Baltodano; two sisters: Patricia Boren of Arkansas and Betty Kupperschmidt of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother Larry (Ragenia) Martin of Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2014 at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut at 3 p.m. A time of sharing will be from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21st, right before the service. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers in his memory to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Illinois Veteran’s Home of LaSalle and the Walnut Manor. Condolences may be sent to The Garland Funeral Home in Walnut completed the arrangements.
